Observation Tasks 5 and 6: Different learning styles and differentiation – General observations

1.     What do you notice? I notice that students pay attention to the lesson well and understand well what the teacher says.

2.     Who are the students who answer the questions? Almost ten to twelve      student answer.
3.     Who are the students who are quiet? They are just two or three.

4.     Who are the students who are not focused? They are five students.

5.     Are there learners who finish activities quickly?  What do they do when they have finished?
Yes there is student finish quickly, after they finished they show it to the teacher then put it in the pink basket, which is the tasks compilation Basket that students have been finished.

6.     Are there learners who do not finish a task(s)?  How does the teacher deal with them?
Yes there is student don't finish the work, so the teacher tell them to put it on the blue basket, which is the tasks compilation Basket that students did not finish so they can finish it the next day.

7.     Are there any learners with special needs?  What kind of special needs do you think they have? How does the teacher deal with them?

There was two student with special needs, one of them he did not enter first kindergarten  so it was difficult for him to catch the pencils and it was difficult understand, and the other was introverted, so the teacher put  table plan for them separately in order to deal with them properly and help them.

8.     How does the teacher manage learners with different levels/abilities?

The teacher puts students in groups not according to the abilities and levels, but it she              puts one group of students who need the intense focus and help them.

Observation task 4:Planning and preparing for learning

How do you plan? Do you plan weekly, daily, as part of a team or individually?

The school’s  planning time occurs weekly, once every Wednesday. The co-teachers should sit together to  plan for ahead week within  the activities

Do you do anything you haven’t planned to do?

Yes, sometimes we can’t cover all the things that we planned  in our weekly lesson plans. One of the examples of that was,  when we had ‘Abu Dhabi Reads’, we planned something  and we couldn’t  not go through our plans  because of disorganized  stuff that was going on in school. Many teachers came up with  something different and they did not involve other teachers to be part of that plan. They invited schools and other teacher invite other schools in the same day! We realized that either the day before or in the same day.

What is important to you when planning a lesson?

They are some components that we have to think about.e.g. the outcomes should match the chosen activities. Each activity should provide three different levels: Master Students (MS), Development Students (DS), and Emergent Students (ES).  We should also think of the next steps for those different levels.  For Mastery students (MS) teachers should provide some challenging tasks for them, MS teachers should provide them tasks  to move  them to the next level in this case MS,  and ES teachers should provide them tasks  to move these students to the next level in this case DE and the same thing with ES students. We should also implement strategies that enhance 21th Century skills in the plan.

Do you plan to do the same thing with all the children in the classroom? ( why/why not)

No, we focus more on the components that I mentioned in the previous question.
